Earlier this year we received a number of reports from users that were unable to delete, move or rename documents on a new SMB file share. Eventually we were able to narrow it down enough to be able to consistently duplicate what they were seeing. It appears the SMB client in Mac OS X (10.11, 10.12 and possibly others) is overly aggressive with file locks. In the linux shell, the following command will recursively search and replace all instances of 'this' with 'that' (I don't have a Linux shell in front of me, but it should do).name '.txt'. What is a PERL file? Every day thousands of users submit information to us about which programs they use to open specific types of files. See the list of programs recommended by our users below.

Try a universal file viewer
Since we do not have any programs listed that we have verified can open PERL files, we suggest that you try a universal file viewer like Free File Viewer. It can open over 200 different types of files - and very likely yours too! Download Free File Viewer.
